Middle-ear-implants are partly or completely implanted electro-magnetic systems. Currently they have an external audio-processor which is worn on the scalp and an internal vibrating device which is implanted into the middle-ear. The sound received by the audio-processor is sent to the implant and transformed into vibration which stimulates the cochlea.

Implants can be simulated by an audio engineer. But they cannot be tested. The implantation is not indicated until the modification of conventional hearing aids incl. ear molds has not been successful and the problems of the acoustic channel cannot be resolved.
