The Baha
Bone-anchored hearing aid
Application area:
Bone-anchored hearing aids are a reliable solution for people who have a conductive hearing loss. Those hearing aids are used if there is for instance an atresia of the acoustic channel, an inflammation of the acoustic channel or a tympanic deformation.
How it works
Bone-anchored hearing aids work via vibration of the cranial bone. This vibration is transported to a small titan screw which is in the cranial bone behind the concha. The vibration is sent directly to the inner ear. It doesn´t matter if the acoustic channel exists or if the middle-ear is intact. Especially children wear those bone-anchored hearing aids with a headband or a clip so consequently no implantation needed.
The Alpha hearing aid (produced by Otomag) works the same way as the Baha (produced by Cochlear). Instead of a titan screw it is connected via a magnet system.
